What can AGC do for you?
Legislative Representation
AGC speaks with a powerful voice for the construction industry in the United States, and the AGC of Kansas, Inc. is the voice of general contractors in Kansas.
The Chapter provides a wide range of services to its members. Through the Chapter, members are advised and informed of developments in labor relations.
At all levels, the responsibility for legislative developments affecting the construction industry is assumed by AGC and its local affiliates. Member and staff activities are geared to protect the individual contractor, the industry, and the general public from harmful legislation; to sponsor new legislation beneficial to the industry and the public; and to keep members constantly advised of legislation developments.
Communications
With newsletters, meetings, and publications from both the national and local levels, members are kept up to date on wage scales and fringe benefits, and on information relating to Davis-Bacon, Taft-Hartley, Equal Employment, and other related regulations, laws, and executive orders.
Legal Assistance
AGC of Kansas provides an attorney on retainer to provide members with assistance on construction-related issues.
Safety Training
AGC, along with other industry organizations, conducts OSHA safety training, ADA compliance and other safety and regulatory training seminars. Chapter staff also serves as the liaison between members and federal, state, and local agencies and OSHA and the safety requirements of each, plus other services in the area of safety.
Workforce Development
In its educational efforts, the Associated General Contractors of Kansas, Inc. attempts to attract young people into the industry and to foster the development of construction education programs at all educational levels. Working with educators and with contractors, the Chapter works in support of apprenticeships programs, high school and votech programs and formal college curricula.
Insurance Program
Specialized insurance programs to meet the needs of a particular industry have changed with the character of insurance underwriting. Due to the high cost of workers' compensation, a number of construction industry groups in several states are turning to self-insurance as one means of holding down workers' compensation premiums. Both Missouri and Kansas are states that permit formation of self-insured groups and have issued rules and regulations concerning these funds. Their regulatory requirements assist in insuring the financial security of the funds.
In 1982 the Builders' Association together with the Kansas City Chapter of the AGC, agreed to sponsor a Group Workers' Compensation Self-Insured Program to be made available to their members to be known as the Builders' Association Self-Insurers' Fund of Missouri and the Builders' Association Self-Insurers' Fund of Kansas.
Membership in the Fund is restricted to members of the Builders’ Association of Missouri, The Kansas City Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, the Heavy Constructors Association of Greater Kansas City, the Associated General Contractors of Kansas, the Associated General Contractors of St. Louis, and the Kansas Contractors Association.
The Funds are organized as trusts under the laws of Missouri and Kansas and administered so that all benefits and excess revenues will flow back to the members as dividends.
Meetings and Events
Whether it's the AGC of Kansas Annual Convention, the AGC Golf Outing or a clay shoot at Flint Oak Lodge, AGC of Kansas members have plenty of opportunities to socialize with others in the industry. But don't think it's all work and no play.
Whether its industry speakers at annual convention or a panel of experts at a roundtable discussion, AGC of Kansas members are up-to-date with current and future industry trends.
